RADSTOCK is, according to Kclly's Directory, a thriving Parish, situate
in a hollow, amid an extensive mining district, 115 miles from London by the Great Western Railway, via Frome, and 124 miles by the London and South Western Railway, via Temple Combe : is 8 miles north west from Frome : 8 1/2 miles south west from Bath by road, and 10 1/2 miles, by Somerset and Dorset Railway. It is in the Frome Parliamentary division of the County, the Kilmersdon Hundred and Petty Sessional Division, the Clutton Poor Law Union, Frome County Court Division, the Rural Deanery of Wells, and Diocese of Bath and Wells. It is supplied with gas from works belonging to EARL WALDEGRAVE, and has a supply of water from springs held in lease from LORD PORTMAN, situate at Downhead. on the Mendip Hills, 8 miles distant, at a height of 6oo feet above sea level. The cost of the scheme was about £12,000.
The parish was formerly governed by a Local Board, constituted in 1874, but under the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1894, is now controlled by an Urban District Council, constituted as follows :—Chairman : Tom Canvin Gregory, J P. : Vice Chairman; Richard Harvey: Members: Thomas Beard, William Stevens Biggs, George Coombs, Walter Warwick Mattick, George E. The acreage of the parish is 1.005 ; rateable value, £12,271.
Population in 1891, 3,438; in 1901, 3,365.
Radstock is the head of a County Council Electoral Division, embracing Camerton and Paulton. County Councillor—Mr. Joseph Bird, Radstock.
